Fiber, Protein and Supplements When Juice Fasting—What About Them?

Last updated on

This is  a common and valid question asked by those going on a juice fast: “What about fiber, protein and supplements when juice fasting?”

What About Fiber When Juice Fasting?

When on juice fasting there is no fiber being consumed. However, fresh juices themselves contain gentle natural laxatives.

During fasting, a huge amount of wastes, toxins, dead cells and diseased tissues are burned, and they are being loosed and expelled from the system.

These wastes are eliminated from the system through our kidneys, bowels, skin and lungs, with the bowels being the main way out.

If not eliminated properly, the toxic wastes remain in your colon and get re-absorbed into the system, poisoning the whole body.

The toxins may try to get eliminated through other eliminative organs, particularly through the kidneys, which may result in overloading or damage.

This is why in any detox program, it is so important that you drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins.

Distilled water is particularly good at doing this as it is the best solvent to dissolve inorganic mineral substances or toxins.

Another kind of wastes that stay in the body are the huge amount of encrustations of old fecal matter along the walls of your 23 feet long small intestines.

An extended juice fast when done properly, helps loosen these encrustations to be eliminated which will gradually allow healing.

When you rid your body of these fecal matters, your intestines began to be able to “breathe” and ABSORB nutrients and function properly again.

To aid with the elimination of wastes, there are a few options that you can consider doing. But remember, these are to be done early on during your fasts, best during the first few days.

What About Protein When Juice Fasting?

Believe it or not, when you drink juices, a lot of your fruits and vegetables do contain some protein.

Think of protein as building blocks, like wood and bricks that you need when building a house, versus cleansing.

When you’re doing body cleanse (juice fast/feast), the body is doing tearing down work (catabolism), thus protein is not needed during this time.

Building materials are not needed when you CLEANSE your house. Instead you need PLENTY of fresh juices and water.

Fresh juices can provide you sufficient plant protein to get by while juice fasting/feasting.

Plant protein is made most bio-available compared to animal protein. This means they get assimilated and used up by the body.

Animal protein mostly cannot be broken down, causing various problems for the kidneys.  This is when juice fasting/feasting helps clear up the problem.

If you definitely still want protein during your juice fast anyway, these vegetables provide some small amounts of protein when you include them in your juice diet: artichoke, asparagus, beetroot, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrot, cauliflower, garlic, onion, potato, sweet potato, spinach and watercress.

What About Supplements When Juice Fasting?

When you’re on a juice fast/feast, you’re drinking big volumes of fresh fruit and vegetable juices that are rich with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, anti-oxidants, bioflavonoids, phytonutrients, etc.

These are wholesome foods and what mankind is supposed to eat.

When you drink the juices of a variety of plant produce, you will get almost all of the over 80 types of nutrients that your body requires.

When not juice fasting/feasting, you don’t usually get these nutrients.

With a standard American diet (SAD), people are eating way too much “dead food” which are not only nutrient depleted but harmful even, robbing you slowly of your health.

With juice fasting/feasting, suddenly your body is flooded with all kinds of nutrients. Now it’s able to finally use these nutrients for FOOD and for HEALING.

If your body gets overwhelmed during this time, you might experience some healing reactions.  Your health condition may get a little worse before it gets better, it’s a healing crisis, but you WILL get better.

supplements when juice fasting

Some people take multi-vitamins daily hoping to provide “ALL” the nutrients to your body.  It really is unnecessary to do this.

Imagine, there are tens of nutrients that your body requires in order to stay healthy. Do you really think it is possible to cramp all these nutrients into one tablet in an amount that is sufficient to keep your body in optimum health?

Or do you think it’s better to take the multi-vit than not to take? If you’re juice fasting, your juices would already be rich with most of the nutrients you need.

What are probably NOT in your juices:  Vitamin B12 which are abundant in spirulina and/or chlorella, iodine from kelp, and the essential fatty acids (Omega 3).

One other important supplement which will be helpful is probiotics especially if you have any digestive issue.

These are some vegetables that are helpful for healing of the digestive system: carrot, cabbage, celery, ginger, garlic, onion and leeks.
