Kill Sinus Infection Within Minutes, With What You Have In Your Kitchen!

Last updated on

A sinus infection is an inflammation of the lining of the sinuses that in many cases lead to persistent headaches, fevers and even facial pains. Fortunately, there are many natural remedies that are effective at cleaning the sinuses and killing the bacteria and viruses responsible for these health problems.

Sinus infection relief using apple cider vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar and Sinus Infection

Infections of the sinuses—the hollow air spaces within the bones in the cheek bones, forehead and between the eyes—are usually caused by either viruses or bacteria. They cause thick mucus blockage and painful or extreme discomfort in these cavities.

  • How to tell if you have a viral or bacterial sinus infection?

Most sinus infections are viral. Symptoms of sinus infections are not reliable signs to tell the difference. Your doctor may only look at the symptom duration to determine the source of your infection, which means you may have to suffer through before nailing down the cause.

A viral sinus infection is shortlived and usually starts to get better after 5-7 days. A bacterial sinus infection may be more stubborn, lasting for 7-10 days or longer, and it may get worse after the seventh day.

  • What happens if a sinus infection is left untreated?

An acute sinusitis is a sinus infection that can last up to four weeks. While a chronic sinusitis can last 12 weeks or longer if left untreated.

When left untreated, a sinus infection can sometimes spread beyond the sinuses and affect the eyes or the brain, due to their proximity to the sinuses. Bacterial infection of the sinuses may also enter the blood stream and transport them to other parts of the body, causing more complications.

  • Can you cure a sinus infection without antibiotics?

Prescribed antibiotics are not the best remedy for sinusitis as they can cause a lot of dangerous side effects. Your body should be given the right healing food to enable it to cure itself. In any case, antibiotics are not helpful if your sinusitis is caused by a virus.

  • Can you permanently cure sinusitis naturally?

Sinus infections show up when the immune system is low. There is a powerful connection between the immune system and the bacteria living in the gut (called microbiome). An imbalance in the microbiome causes an explosion of bad bacteria, which in time leads to infections in your sinuses.

Can you permanently cure sinusitis? Yes, by fixing your gut and getting rid of sinusitis for good. Here’s how.

Fastest Way To Get Rid Of A Sinus Infection

Using these ingredients is an excellent way to get rid of a sinus infection almost instantly, providing a much welcome relief. However, sinus infection may recur if you don’t fix the underlying cause, that is an imbalanced gut flora.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has many practical uses. It is probably one of the top natural remedies for many ailments.

Apple cider vinegar contains vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and malic acids that are beneficial for killing bacteria. It works by binding to pathogens and help the body get rid of them more effectively. It is also effective for fighting viral, fungal and Candida infections.

Look for raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized, organic apple cider vinegar to get the medicinal benefits. How to tell the genuine and “real” apple cider vinegar? The liquid is usually “murky”, not clear, and you can see sediment pieces at the bottom of the bottle—that is the “mother”. If unsure, always buy only Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar.

When taken orally, ACV breaks up mucus and clear airways, while its antibacterial properties kill the infection-causing bacteria.

When mucus and nasal congestion is broken down, ACV delivers its rich nutrients to the body to support and strengthen the immune system, preventing the infection from getting worse.

Although acidic, ACV has all the necessary electrolytes to balance the body’s pH levels and effectively reduces body acidity. Harmful microbes (bacteria or viruses) love an acidic environment and by alkalizing the body it will stop the disease-causing microbes from multiplying. This is why consuming 1-2 tablespoons of ACV every day keeps the viruses away!

Cayenne Pepper

The active component of cayenne pepper is a compound in its fruit called capsaicin that gives the pepper its hot fiery taste. Capsaicin has long been used as a painkiller and for reducing nasal congestion.

There are a few ways you can take pepper to help clear a sinus infection. You can …

  • Use a capsaicin nasal spray
  • Add ½ teaspoon in a cup of hot water and drink for several days till you recover
  • Sniffing a small amount on a spoon to clear airways

Cayenne pepper works because when ingested, it helps to dilate vessels and help to break down mucus for draining. At the same time, this substance lessens your facial pain, reduces inflammation, stimulates circulation and acts as an antibacterial agent. All of these—and many more benefits of cayenne pepper—are helpful in preventing and relieving the symptoms of sinusitis.

Apple Cider Vinegar For Sinus Allergies

Ingredients

Note: You can buy apple cider vinegar in powder form (capsules) that may be helpful for the many ailments that apple cider vinegar can treat, although it won’t be in full strength as in its liquid form.

Directions

  • Mix all these ingredients in a glass.
  • Stir well and sip the mixture warm until the condition subsides.
  • You may also use this mixture (without honey) to gargle to speed up your recovery.

For How Long To Drink?

Each portion you drink of the above recipe will relieve your sinus for several hours. It is safe to drink it once or twice a day or as you see the need. You will feel a difference within seconds or minutes from drinking the concoction, that is how potent it is!

Gradually increase the dose as you see fit, according to the degree of severity of your sinusitis.

This concoction not only relieves the congestion by breaking down the mucus, it also heals. As you drink it daily, you may feel that your sinusitis may eventually stop. After that, you may omit cayenne pepper and drink 1 tablespoon of ACV daily with a glass of water for maintenance.

Cayenne pepper is the key ingredient that makes this drink works powerfully. If you cannot tolerate the pepper heat, use a smaller amount, it will still help.

Feedback From A Reader Whose Mother Has Tried This:

The following feedback is from a reader who wrote in to us. Her comment is also published at the bottom of this page in the Comments section.

“This mixture is a great article. I have recommended this to my mom as she had a sinus surgery recently and was bleeding a lot in surgery. Which is just crazy … they had to put in an artery line through the heel of her foot as they called this “life saving” measures. It’s been almost 1 year since the surgery and she has been on Zurtech all this time, per her doctor’s order. I guess there’s something in that medication that helps relieve the symptoms.

The concern was when she went into Walmart, she over-exceeded her limit from that over-the-counter medication and now she can no longer take it. I have been getting my mom on this eating raw and organic this past year, when I saw she started having a lot of inflammation in her body. Not just with the sinuses but she started having pain in her body from eating the wrong foods.

I have been teaching her what foods to eat and just overall educating her about what’s in food, because this is another way to help combat illness in the body. The first thing we had to do was get her off all the bad foods that caused the inflammation, so we did. I have her on a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement that’s the best out there on the market that she takes in a liquid form everyday.

While all this was going on she started having facial pain again, even though her doctor said she is still healing from this sinus surgery. Last she went to the doctor with all this pain the doctor asked if there was any drainage. She said none at all. I knew this was a problem because generally when the body gets sick, it gets a fever and the body starts naturally wanting to expel mucus and any chronic sickness over the body overall. After all, you just need to give the body what it needs to naturally heal itself.

Today she took this mixture … and she almost threw up because she is not used to drinking that ACV. But, now she is seeing drainage coming out, right after she drank this mixture! Finally something normal her body is doing. NONE was there before taking all her crazy meds the doctor prescribed her.

At this point, not even her medication is helping relieve the pain. So we are going to keep this up 2-3 times a day. My mom says she noticed like something is “working behind the scenes”, like something is breaking things up. I will let you know how she is doing.

This article has been really informative. I have also recommended this to my cousin who has the same issue.”

  1. By ‘raw’ honey they mean honey that has not been heated and thus the beneficial enzymes killed. Look for the beekeepers name and address on the container to ensure it is “raw” honey. Commercial even organic brands are NOT raw.

  2. I wonder if this causes stomach issues with people that already have bad stomachs. Does anyone know?

    1. Hi Vivian, if you have stomach issues, just have apple cider vinegar and raw honey in warm water. Drink 2-3 times every day, about 15 minutes before a meal. This may help to relieve your stomach issues. Both ingredients are excellent for killing harmful bacteria, while at the same time repairing and nourishing damaged cells. This is helpful to take as well if you have acid reflux or stomach ulcers.

    2. I have a hiatal hernia and take omeprazale for stomach issues. I drink apple cider vinegar every day and it works well for me with no added issues.

    3. Hi Vivian,
All 3 of those ingredients help heal your stomach. I have been taking cayenne to heal my stomach and it is working. At first it does burn, but it is fixing my stomach. ACV also heals because it is a digestive enzyme. Raw honey has natural probiotics that help heal. They also protect you from getting sick. During the Holidays my whole family was sick, but I never got it. For me that is something amazing because I have an autoimmune disease.

  3. karen festa

sounds interesting and would love to learn how to take care of my health naturally.

  4. I started drinking apple cider vinegar right away! I always use Braggs. Hope this helps my sinus infection.

  5. I have a serious sinus and upper respiratory infection. Wonder if it will knock it out of me. I’m recovering from the flu.

  6. Need help for sinus infection
Was going to dr tomorrow but I will give this a shot!

  7. I’ve had chronic sinus infections for over five years. On and off antibiotics and have suffered through three separate sinus surgeries. I’m at my wits finding something to help my issue.

    1. My husband has had chronic sinus infections for over 20 years. He has a lot of scar tissue in his sinuses, and every year he would end up at the doctors having his sinuses drained at least a half dozen times. If he got a cold, it always went to his sinuses. Three years ago he started consistently using essential oils (specifically the Breathe blend from Doterra). He has not had a single infection since he started using the oils. Earl, I hope that will help you.

    2. Antibiotics do not work for sinus problems. Just destroys the good bacteria in your stomach.

  8. I am 8 months pregnant with the most annoying sinus attack right now. Is it safe for me to consume ACV while pregnant though?

    1. Yes, ACV is as safe as eating an apple. However, if you’re not used to consuming ACV, then start with a teaspoon in a glass of water and work your way up to 1 or 2 tablespoons a day.

  9. I am sipping this now, have had sinus infection for two months. I can already breathe easier. Hope it works. I will continue with 2 tbsp a day of Braggs vinegar.

  10. I was suffering from heartburn, acid re-flux and occasionally an upset stomach. Truth be told my diet was horrible so no wonder why I was suffering. I started with the antacids, and the more I read about their consequences, the more I researched other options. One thing that kept coming up was ACV. I decided to give it a try and although I hated the taste it literally worked, no heartburn, acid re-flux, and I can’t remember the last time I had an upset stomach. BUT, the taste I couldn’t get used to, so I researched ACV tablets and tried them, PERFECT, I’ve used them instead of the liquid for the past 10 years. No symptoms at all!

  11. Kayla Ortega

My husband and father both do the vinegar remedies for just about anything!! We’ve had sinus infection for over a month now, and WOW!! This really does work!! Very interesting!!!

  12. Used the recipe above and need to know if you drink this once a day or sip on it throughout the day? Thank you

  13. I just read this article last night and gave it a shot … first time I could actually breathe in months … like all the way to my brain breathing 🙂 No phlegm this morning either which is usually how I wake up. I am pleasantly surprised … and a bonus was, my night time acid reflux issues were silent. Yay!

  14. Can you make like a liter of this mixture and place it in fridge then gradually consume it?

    1. Yes, you can, but drinking it warm gives you better effect for killing a sinus infection.

  15. Pat Johnson

I am in my 80s. When I was a child my mother would treat our colds with a mixture of honey and vinegar. She cooked it together until thick and gave it to us on a spoon to stop coughing. We also sipped it warm in water. It always worked in the days before we had penicillin and other antibiotics.

    1. No, please avoid use of microwave as it will alter the molecules of the ingredients, rendering them useless.

  16. I have been battling with my sinuses for nearly a year now the last 3 weeks was really bad, can I drink this every day?

    1. Yes, sip the concoction slowly throughout the day and see an improvement with your sinus. You can drink it daily. Reduce on cayenne pepper if you cannot handle it, but overall I receive feedback that the cayenne pepper is very useful for reducing the congestion. Let us know how it goes!

  17. I have a pseudomonas in my sinus, have had it since 2004, also had 9 operations to try and eliminate it, the last one being in September last year, when I nearly bled to death. Tomorrow I am having the tear ducts in my eyes blocked off to stop it going into my eyes. This morning I have had my first drink ? of ACV with Manuka honey ?, is it my imagination or am I breathing through my nose easier. Shall let you know how I get on, if you want me to.

This article has been really informative. I have also recommended this to my cousin who has the same issue. Sharing the knowledge. I wonder though, is there anything we can do about making the taste less strong? Any suggestions?

    1. Hi Natalie, thank you for sharing your story about your mother’s sinus surgery and her experience with drinking the ACV drink. It is so awesome to hear that the drink is breaking up the mucus to be expelled! To answer your question about making the taste less strong, you may omit the cayenne pepper or using just a pinch. Please continue to update us on how she’s doing with the drink!

  19. Rene duckett

Is there an herbal pill like with the same ingredients. If so, where can I get it.

    1. There is no pill with these ingredients, however, if you cannot handle drinking ACV, you may opt for the powdered ACV in capsule form. Add the other ingredients separately. You can buy the ACV capsule here: https://amzn.to/2koaVWT

  20. I have been drinking this concoction for 11 days now, is it ok to consume this much ACV (1/4 C) daily? It tastes horrible, and my sinuses don’t seem any better, but I believe a lump on my side is shrinking..! I’m just wondering how long or how much is too much ACV and Cheyenne pepper..??? I look forward to your answer please, and thanks, M.J.

    1. Hi MJ, your body is intelligent in that when fed the right healing food, it knows to cure the more serious problem in the body first. In your case, it could be that lump that is already shrinking! Let the ACV continue to do its work. At the same time, listen to your body. If you feel it is too much, you may reduce at half strength but continue once a day till you feel an improvement in your sinus. Let us know how it goes!

    2. Natalie Spasic

According to my mother when she took this mixture, the first time because she was doing this directly to help the pressure in her face, she did not sip the drink. She gulped it down, which by the way is a hard thing to do. She says she felt the warmth (heat) of this drink. The sensation started from her nose and up to her sinuses, all the way up her face.
She also said that she felt things were popping or moving around, like breaking up. She says if your lips are not on fire you’re not drinking it fast enough. It was actually a good thing she swallowed it this way the first time, because she was in a bad state. She said she loved how it felt! Lol!
It was really hard for her to drink this the first time. So she is now playing around with the dosage, she is halfing it. She is starting to itch on parts of her body so this would be another reason why we are playing with the dosage as well. In addition, we will be getting the tablets to try them out.
I do have a concern with the amount of ACV in this recipe, because normally people will take 2 tablespoons ACV with water daily. So I don’t know. I have been reading on allergic reactions to ACV and they are recommending anti itch cream and benadryl and tapering the dosage or not taking it altogether. But then I also read that this could be a good thing if it happens as it is expelling toxins out through the largest organ in the body which is the skin.
Sara Ding what do you think about this when it comes to the itching? I do agree with Sara though, on how the ACV is working .. it is probably going to the part where it sees the problem it needs to fix first. But, I have no doubt that it will help with sinuses. My mom had it very bad where she had sunglasses days when even the light hurt her eyes. Now, she does not need them any more!

      1. Hi Natalie, this is amazing! So, “something” is breaking up “behind the scenes”, she’s beginning to drain mucus .. and now she no longer needs her sunglasses! The ACV mixture is working, when the surgery and all her medications did not. I’m so glad!
About the itching, it is a sign that the ACV is working. It’s killing a lot of the harmful bacteria and parasites in the gut, dumping them into the bloodstream that don’t get eliminated fast enough as your mother’s liver is also not able to filter the toxins byproduct as it should. It is a detoxification reaction, which means that the body is responding! You are right, that the body is trying to expel the toxins through the skin, thus the itch. What your mom is doing is good, by taking it at half strength. During this cleansing time, continue eating clean as much as she can, and drink PLENTY of water to help flush out the toxins. She will be making more trips to the washroom but it’s ok and necessary. Awesome!

  21. I have been on antibiotics for 2 months and now they want to do sinus surgery to remove the infection. I am concerned this acv is not pasteurized. Does it work with acv that is not pasteurized? I can’t really have Honey either without it making me super sick does this concoction help if of used without honey?

    1. First of all, an infection cannot be removed by surgery. ACV has to be non-pasteurized for it to work effectively. Pasteurized ACV would render the remedy useless as the heating process would destroy all nutrients and enzymes that are there to kill the infection. If you cannot have honey, replace with freshly-extracted juice from a green apple or 2 carrots. Let us know how it goes!

  22. I think I have acid reflux for many years and the only thing I do to relieve the pain is drink plenty of cold water. Can you please help and tell me what to do, will ACV help? Thanks a lot.

    1. Hi Emma, please read this article:
      http://juicing-for-health.com/heartburn-cure
It is important to understand why acid reflux occur, and there are also tips on what you can do. There must also be a change in diet and lifestyle. Together with a drink of apple cider vinegar and raw honey, it will certainly help to ease and gradually stop acid reflux. Read more about how to take ACV on a daily basis: http://juicing-for-health.com/101-organic-apple-cider-vinegar-for-ailments.

  23. Would it be safe and effective to put 2-3 drops of ACV into a Neti Pot with distilled H2O and a salt packet and used to irrigate the sinuses?
I already use ACV and raw honey (no cayenne) as a daily drink, but I continue to have recurring sinus infections.
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Dixie, I’m sorry but I cannot comment about using a netti pot as I have no experience with it. However, I would suggest you use the recipe as we have on our website (with cayenne pepper). We have received many positive feedback from readers who have tried the recipe as it is. All the best!

  24. Gustavo Lopez

I tried this concoction this morning and started to breathe better. The cayenne pepper sure helps to give it a kick.
    Thank you!

  25. Sara Ding

Hi Susan, apple cider vinegar is really good for individuals suffering from acid reflux/GERD/heartburn. It may initially burn but will eventually heal. Start with 1 teaspoon in a glass of water and gradually work up to 2 tablespoons in a glass of water, drunk daily. I have seen a few such cases of my clients taking ACV who have healed from acid reflux. You can read more about acid reflux here: http://juicing-for-health.com/acid-reflux-is-not-caused-by-too-much-stomach-acid and make sure to click the links to have a better understanding of the condition!

  26. I’ve had a sinus infection for 6 weeks now. Third round of antibiotics. I’m trying this tomorrow. I’ll send in my results. Nothing else is doing anything!

  27. The article and recipe says not more than twice daily. I took this mixture at noon with miraculous results! But now it’s five hours later and, well… I’d like another dose. I gulped the first batch down. Should I break this up into, say, maybe, a measured amount every four hours to hold the symptoms at bay? I am really impressed with how it worked! Why on earth did we ever leave the natural model for allopathy?!! (I know. I know…. money and greed.)

  28. Liz Hemingway

I have been down for 7 whole days. I used ACV to clean my fingers nails but didn’t know how powerful it was for other uses. Well I’m sick and tired of this sinus, today here’s my recipe: Thyme, apple cider vinegar, honey, water and lemon – made me a good hot tea and went to bed drinking it. Well I can feel something happened inside my stomach. I’m breathing better, my throat is feeling good. Just wanted to share that this is working. My acid reflux has subsided, going in for my second cup. Wow! All this time and I had the home made medicine in the kitchen and never knew!

  29. I started drinking this almost two weeks ago and did see some really good results but not great results. Yesterday I bought some honey from a local farm and switched to that honey … great results! Much clearer. I am using 2 tbs ACV and 1 TBS of honey along with the lemon and cayenne pepper.
