8 Medication-Free Strategies To Ease Anxiety And Reduce Stress

Last updated on

At some point, everyone has to deal with some stress or anxiety. But if you are dealing with this on a regular basis, then you should look for ways to limit your stress or anxiety.

If you want to avoid the use of medications, then take a look at these six natural ways to ease your anxiety and reduce your stress levels.

1. Get Regular Exercise

The first tip for getting rid of anxiety and stress is to perform a little exercise. Getting your blood pumping can help promote the release of endorphins, which help relieve some of your stress or anxiety.

You do not need to carry out a strenuous workout. Try going for a walk, for at least 10-15 minutes a day. This is a good practice to help calm your mind and allow you to let go of your stress.

2. Try Breathing And Relaxation Techniques

Taking deep breaths and exhaling fully is another good exercise you can do. During your walk, take a few moments when you’re at the park, to do this.

A good deep breathing exercise helps allow more oxygen into your lungs and into your brains to calm and relax you. Not many people practice this but when they do, they will realize how beneficial it is to hear their own breathing and to feel relaxed.

3. Limit Your Time On Social Media

Limit the amount of time that you spend browsing social media, such as Facebook. Studies have shown that spending time on social media sites can increase your anxiety or depression. When you are already feeling down, it is easy to begin comparing your life with your friends and family.

4. Cut Down on Caffeine

Caffeine can be beneficial for providing a little bit of stimulant, but consuming too much may backfire and increase your anxiety. Caffeine stimulates the part of the brain that is responsible for the flight or fight reaction. It can also interfere with your adrenals and eventually your sleep patterns.

If you are a regular coffee drinker, try to cut down and avoid coffee after lunchtime.

5. Take Breaks from Stressful Activities

If you are dealing with stressful activity, give yourself small breaks. Get up and walk around for a few minutes. Go outside and breath some fresh air or get a glass of water. Some people find that performing a few simple stretches can help relieve stress for a moment.

6. Try to Determine the Cause of Your Stress

Try getting to the root of your stress or anxiety. If you can figure out what is causing your stress or anxiety, you can take steps to either avoid your triggers or address them.

A client told me that he feels stressed when flying because of the noise and fuel smell which he found nauseating. For the noise, I recommended earbuds and simply probiotics to help him tolerate smell such that it would not cause nausea.

Often, a heavy workload cause stress and the last thing on your mind may be sleep. But, believe it or not, sleep is really what you need most when you are stressed. Your brain needs rest, in order to refresh from a long day. Without adequate sleep, your brain will have trouble handling stressful situations or dealing with anxiety.

It is important to remember that everyone goes through stressful situations occasionally. Anxiety is also a very common issue. You are not alone in these situations and you have the power to overcome stress or anxiety.

8. Omega 3 Supplement

Some individuals may just simply find it difficult to relax. There is a sense of anxiety in any different environments or situations. Taking an Omega 3 supplement may be helpful to help calm the anxiety, improve the mood and ability to deal with the stress on hand.
