Symptoms Of Canker Sores

Typically before the sore appears as a full blown sore, you may experience a tingling sensation with some pain when you move your mouth.  There may be only one or two sores, or sometimes in more severe cases, there can be a cluster.

You may experience a great deal of pain once the sore blooms and make it very uncomfortable to chew, speak or even smile. In very severe cases the canker sore can become infected and you may experience fevers from the infection.

Home Remedies For Canker Sores

There are several different home remedies for canker sores that can help to reduce the amount of time that you have to deal with this painful condition.  These home remedies will help to treat and prevent canker sores:

  • Salt water rinse:  Dissolve 1 teaspoon full of seasalt in very warm water and rinse your mouth thoroughly. Do this 3 or 4 times a day. The salt water has two effects. It is a mild analgesic and it will also act as a cleansing solution and antibacterial. This practice will ensure that the canker sore does not become infected.
  • Baking soda rinse:  Dissolve 1 teaspoon full of baking soda in very warm water. This has similar effects that the salt water has, minus the overly salty taste.
  • Milk of Magnesia:  You can rinse with milk of magnesia or just dab it on. It will calm the pain of the canker sore and help to heal it. Milk of magnesia has essential nutrients that are key in healing the canker sore.
