Tylenol Causes Liver Toxicity and Damage; Try These Safe, Natural Painkillers Instead

Last updated on

Tylenol, Panadol, Paracetamol, Midol, Ponstan are the main go-to as a painkiller for many people. Parents give these drugs to their children to ease any discomforts, adults take them to relieve mild to moderate pains, women take them to relieve PMS symptoms, thinking that these drugs are “safe”, and they do work almost instantly.

Acetaminophen is the generic name for Tylenol or Panadol and it is commonly mixed into medicines for headaches, migraine, fever, arthritis, cough, sinus, cold and the like, all known by various names.

Tylenol Causes Liver Toxicity And Damage

When combined with heavy alcohol use, as in the case of taking Tylenol for a hangover, or use of acetaminophen with other drugs such as antibiotics, anti-depressants, anti-fungals, seizure medications, birth control pills, blood pressure or cholesterol, severe liver toxicity and damage can occur.

According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers, acetaminophen is the most common drug that has been reported to cause overdose, injuries, hospitalizations and deaths. Some of the symptoms of a toxic reaction of acetaminophen include:

  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Excessive sweating
  • Seizures
  • State of confusion
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising and swelling
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Rashes and hives

How Much Is Too Much?

Severe liver damage can occur in adults who use acetaminophen for more than ten consecutive days at doses of 4000 mg or more per day. That’s the equivalent of eight extra strength Tylenol tablets per day.

In individuals who are already on some form of long-term medication, have a chronic disease, or are consuming alcohol, liver toxicity may come on even faster. And as for children the toxicity dosage is lower.

Even though you may not be taking that much dosage per day, taking it regularly causes a cumulative effect as drugs are synthetic (man-made) and the human body needs some help to expel them properly. Drugs don’t get filtered as effectively by a liver that is already burdened with long-term medication and other toxins that are ingested through processed foods and a toxic environment.

Studies show that children taking acetaminophen drugs after vaccination has a higher risk of autism. Even taking them once a month increases risk of asthma and its symptoms by over 500%!!

Non-Toxic Alternatives To Acetaminophen

If you have been taking Tylenol, Panadol, Midol, Ponstan, or Paracetamol as a painkiller, STOP! These drugs may give you only a temporary relief that makes you become dependent on it. It doesn’t cure. Not only does it cause liver toxicity and damage, it also causes many nutrient deficiencies that will lead to other health issues in the long run. It’s simply not worth the temporary relief compared to the negative impact it has on your health.

If you have been taking Tylenol or any of these painkiller medicines for many years now and suspect that you have liver toxicity, a beetroot juice cleanse may be helpful to help safely remove the toxins from your body. Eating the right liver support foods are necessary to reverse the damages done.

There are many non-toxic alternatives that you can take as a painkiller. Although they may not work as instantly as Tylenol does, consuming these healthier alternatives may cure your ailments, rather than just suppressing the symptoms.

Consider consuming one or more of the following health foods for pain control:

1. Magnesium

One of the first things to take is magnesium. In fact, magnesium is an absolute must for anyone suffering from pain, especially those suffering from arthritis and fibromyalgia. Magnesium is best derived from foods such as green leafy vegetables, avocados, nuts and seeds, beans and lentils, bananas, figs, dark chocolate and wild mackerel. Here’s a magnesium-rich juice you may like to try. Also see this list of magnesium-rich foods.

2. Curcumin

Curcumin is an extract from turmeric root. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory that only helps to relieve pain, but also protects the liver from damage caused by toxins contamination. Read more about curcumin here, and how you can supercharge its healing power by up to 2000% with a small addition of another substance.

3. Ginger Root and Beetroot

Ginger root and beetroot are two very powerful and effective anti-inflammatory roots that are beneficial for relieving pain and inflammation.

Drinking a glass of two of beetroot juice daily will gradually reduce your pains and their intensity. Here’s an anti-inflammatory juice that is my go-to for relieving any pain, and many other juice combinations and foods that help relieve pain.

This ginger-turmeric tea is a safe, natural painkiller, detoxifies and support your liver, and at the same time boost your immunity.

4. Bromelain

Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory enzyme derived from pineapple. You may enjoy of its benefits from pineapple juice, or from a bromelain supplement. The next time you have a pain, especially a muscle pain, try this natural painkiller juice.

5. Vitamin C

Daily consuming foods high in bioflavonoids and vitamin C will gradually reduce your pain and inflammation. Instead of taking Tylenol for your cough and cold, drink this ginger-lemon-honey tea instead.

A bioflavonoids-vitamin C supplement is also beneficial to be taken when having a fever or feeling the onset of a cold. It is safe to take 1000 mg vitamin C, up to 5000 or 7000 mg per day for an adult, with plenty of water and rest for speedier recovery.

6. Probiotics

Although this is last on the list, it is important to take probiotics food always, especially if you have any pains in your body.

Probiotics help to boost your immune system as it helps your body to detoxify and absorb nutrients from the healthy foods you eat.

You can obtain healthy bacteria from fermented foods or from probiotic supplements.

There are many foods that will help relieve pain and inflammation, that are even healing at the same time. Consider going the safe and healthy route, instead of popping another pill. Sure, it takes some work and effort to get healthy, but it is definitely better than having side effects in the future that you would not know how to reverse later.
