Top 3 Causes Of Poor Eyesight

Constant Eye Strain

One of the most common causes of poor eyesight is eye strain. Many of us are constantly staring at a digital screen. Be it on a computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone or an e-reader. Focusing on a computer screen for too long can cause eye strain, especially when you do it in the dark at bedtime.

Digital eye strain can lead to deteriorating eyesight. Although sunlight contains UV and blue light, blue light from digital screens in close proximity can reach deeper into the eyes. The cumulative effect of the amount of time spent looking at a digital screen can cause damage to the retina. In certain wavelengths, blue light may even cause development of macular degeneration regardless of your age.

Lack of Antioxidants In Your Diet

Eating foods that are high in harmful fats and refined carbs can lead to inflammation  that causes bad eyesight. Just by simply avoiding these foods for one day, you may notice a “good eyesight” day where things might seem clearer.

Foods that help are colorful fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants content. You will benefit most from plant foods that are red, yellow, orange and green in color by eating or juicing them raw.

They contain carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin that protect the retina from damages caused by blue and ultraviolet light. They help prevent the development of macular degeneration, night blindness (astigmatism), dry eyes and cataracts.

Drugs/Medication

There are a number of drugs/medications that can affect your eyesight. Taking substances that are foreign to your body (which are synthetically manufactured, such as drugs/medications) can cause the toxins to reach the retina through your blood supply, potentially resulting in significant visual disturbances.

Go here for a list of 62 drugs that can cause eye problems and diseases.

Simply stopping these medications when you notice these symptoms will usually reverse the condition.

4 Proven Methods To Improve Your Eyesight Naturally

There are many other factors that can cause poor eyesight. Properly caring for your eyesight can always slow down the deterioration process. But, what’s even better, is by practicing any (or all) of these natural remedies to reverse the deterioration, might possibly improve your eyesight.

These remedies work best when you’re at borderline sight impairment.

1. The Bates Method: So Effective That It Was Banned

One proven method for improving your eyesight is the Bates Method that is named after Dr William Horatio Bates (1860 – 1930). In his time, he was one of the best eye doctors at renowned hospitals in New York. He published a book, titled The Bates Method for Better Eyesight Without Glasses.

The Bates Method theory states that:

  • Recovery of good vision is possible
  • It is necessary to abandon artificial lenses and glasses for eyesight improvement
  • Acuity varies according to the physical and emotional state of a person
  • Adopting good vision techniques (such as relaxation), can help reduce the stress in our eyes thus resulting in improvement of sight
  • Micro eye movements gave good results in the treatment of visual defects

Some of the techniques taught by Dr Bates are:

  • The relaxation of body and eyes
  • Palming: One of the simplest of all the techniques. Palming is also the foundation for learning how to relax the eyes and mind.
  • Sunning: Is the simple application of light to the eyes, that provide the basis of discernment between light and darkness.
  • Swinging: Introducing the vision and mind to movements in the world.
  • Flash technique

Remember, the goal is not to train by exercising your eyes to make them stronger. The goal is to relax them. If one of your limbs was injured, you don’t exercise them, you relax them so that they can start healing. Likewise, when your eyesight is poor, you want to master relaxation techniques in order to reverse any impairment.

Using pinhole glasses can permanently improve your eyesight, rather than just correcting it. Have you ever wondered why people who wear prescription glasses never improve their eyesight? In fact, it gets worse, having to go for lenses with higher prescription from time to time? The lenses just get thicker and thicker!

With pinhole glasses, you need to wear them for only about 15-20 minutes each time to see near and far. Wear them when you’re reading a book or at the computer, or simply going out for a walk (to focus on far objects).

They help your eyes to focus better, such that when you take them off, you actually see better without glasses. Wearing these pinhole glasses for 15-20 minutes daily help retrain your eyes and dramatically improve your vision in just a few days!
