Diet Foods That Can Slow Your Metabolism Or Even Make You Gain Weight

There are many lies, myths, and misinformation in the food industry when it comes to nutrition, dieting, and weight loss. A major part of the problem is the conflicting advice that consumers are constantly bombarded with.
One minute a particular food is considered healthy and in another it is added to the list of foods to avoid. This leads to incorrect concepts about what you should and should not eat when you are trying to lose weight.
Here is a list of so-called “diet” foods that are not as healthy as they are being marketed. If you are struggling to reach your ideal weight, then make sure you are cutting these foods out of your diet.
1. Diet Or Zero Soda
The idea that diet or zero soda is a healthy alternative to regular soda is a common misconception. People think that switching out regular soda for diet soda will help them drop a few pounds. Zero calories? Don’t fall for it.
Diet soda may not have the regular sugar but it is loaded with artificial sweeteners instead. These sugar substitutes have been shown to be more toxic and are linked to cancers, tumors, thyroid issues, and even weight gain!
2. Pre-Packaged Trail Mix
Trail mix can make a great snack, when you prepare it yourself. Most commercially available trail mixes contain your typical variety of healthy foods, such as raisin and nuts. However, they also often contain an abundance of partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil, which is loaded with transfats.
3. Granola Bars
Granola bars are heavily associated with health foods. The problem is that granola is a high-calorie food and many people do not realize this. Additionally, mass produced granola bars are likely to contain added sugar and hydrogenated oil that negates some of the health benefits of this ingredient.
A quality granola bar could make a healthy meal replacement if you are working out or building muscle, but they simply do not offer enough nutrition for the number of calories they contain—especially if your primary goal is to lose weight.
4. Commercial Salad Dressings
Some people simply do not like the taste of a fresh salad. To add a little flavor, salad dressing gets used.
Unfortunately, most commercial salad dressings contain soybean oil, high fructose corn syrup, and other artificial food additives.
You can easily prepare your own healthy, homemade salad dressing with some extra virgin olive oil, a dash of vinegar, and a selection of spices.
5. Processed Deli Meats
Not everyone has the time to cook chicken, or a whole turkey, in order to have meat for sandwiches and other meals. For this purpose, many people turn to packaged deli meats, which tend to contain large amounts of nitrates and sodium.
Nitrates, sodium and other food preservatives are included to increase shelf life and preserve flavor, yet they also have a negative impact on your heart health. One serving of your typical deli turkey meat contains over 12 grams of fat.
Even though many people think these foods are okay to snack on during most diets, they could actually be sabotaging your diet. If you are having trouble finding healthy snacks, consider eating a couple servings of nuts, seeds, or yogurt. There are plenty of ways to eat healthy without sacrificing taste.
Stay away from these foods that are disguised as health foods if you want to increase your chances of weight loss.
