Last updated on

Baking soda, in its natural form, is known as nahcolite, which is part of the natural mineral natron. Natron, which contains large amounts of sodium bicarbonate, has been used since ancient times.

While many are aware of its versatile qualities for cooking and household use, few people realize that baking soda also has potent medicinal properties.

You will be surprised to know the helpful uses we can use it for, besides for baking.

Here is just a short list of things you can do by using baking soda:

1. Relieve heartburn, indigestion, and ulcer pain

Most antacids contain some form of bicarbonate. Baking soda is made of 100 percent natural sodium bicarbonate and works by neutralizing stomach acid immediately. It is beneficial for relieving heartburn, indigestion and even ulcer pain. You will be surprised to find out how remarkably quick-relieving and effective it is!

Add half a teaspoon of baking soda in about four ounces of water, dissolve it and drink every two hours, but no more than seven times in 24 hours.

This should only be used as an emergency treatment and not for chronic treatment. For permanent healing of acid reflux, you will require some diet modifications and include regular juicing in your lifestyle.

2. Use as toothpaste and teeth whitener

You can use baking soda to make your own toothpaste that whitens your teeth naturally, and it’s easy to do.

Make a paste of baking soda with a little water, add a pinch of sea salt. Use it as you would your regular toothpaste and brush your teeth lightly.

When you have splinters under your skin that just won’t be removed, do this. Make a little baking soda paste with water, apply to the affected area and put a band-aid over it. Change the band-aid two or three times a day and the splinter will come out on its own after two days, without a tweezer.
