Nutrient-Packed Parsnip Chip Recipes To Beat Your Junk Food Cravings

Who doesn’t love some crunchiness and munchiness? Do you find yourself buying packets of chips from the store every time you go grocery shopping? If so, you may want to try making your own healthy parsnip chips instead. Store-bought chips are some of the most toxic-laden processed foods, as they are full of sodium with unpronounceable additives and ingredients.
The perfect alternative to potato chips is to prepare your own homemade parsnip chips. Made from the mildly sweet vegetable that is closely related to carrots, parsnip chips are easy to prepare and can be sliced thin or thick, depending on your tastes.

Use a veggie slicer to slice the parsnips very thin (I use Brieftons veggie slicer). If you do not have a slicer, you could try using a knife, just be careful as you slice the parsnips as thinly as you can.

1. Maple Cinnamon Parsnip Chips
This first parsnip chip recipe includes maple syrup, to make a sweet and savory chip. It’s great if you like some healthy sweetness in your snack.
Ingredients:
- 3 parsnips
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
- ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
- Sprinkle of fine-ground seasalt to taste
Directions:
Start by preheating your oven to 275F degrees. While you are waiting for the oven to preheat, slice the parsnips. Place the sliced parsnips in a bowl and coat with the maple syrup. Toss the chips around in the bowl and then spread them out onto a lined baking sheet.
Sprinkle the cinnamon and sea salt on top of the parsnip slices. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes. Halfway through the cook time, remove the baking sheet from the oven and flip the chips. Let the chips cool a little when removed from the oven before serving. Totally cool the rest and store leftovers in an airtight container.
2. Baked Parsnip Chips
If you do not like just a natural parsnip taste, unflavored, then you may prefer these more traditional parsnip chips.
Ingredients:
- 3 parsnips
- Drizzle of olive oil, or avocado oil as desired
- Sprinkle of fine-ground seasalt to taste
- Dashes of black pepper as desired (optional)
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 275F degrees. Slice the parsnips as thin as you can. Try to make each of the parsnips the same size thickness. Place the parsnips in a large mixing bowl.
Drizzle a small amount of olive oil on top of the parsnips and toss. Sprinkle the sea salt and pepper onto the parsnips and then toss again. Arrange the parsnips on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and then flip the slices over. Bake for another 15 minutes, checking on them every 5 minutes until they are golden brown.
