Why Cranberry Juice Works So Well For Treating UTI

Last updated on

A new study on cranberries has discovered why cranberries can help prevent and treat urinary tract infections (UTI). Scientists at Worcester Polytechnic Institute share the secret.

The kind of bacteria that lead to UTIs are known as virulent bacteria. They have hair-like “legs” called fimbriae that they use to attach to the bladder-wall. The studies show that even just a little bit of cranberry juice creates enough thermodynamic energy to create a shield that prevents bacteria from getting a foothold.

Crantastic!

The cranberry juice solution is temporary though. It’s important to consume cranberries regularly—perhaps even daily—so you ensure you’re controlling the bad bacteria in your gut. It only affects the bad bacteria, because the good bacteria don’t have fimbriae.

Our insides are full of bacteria that fight horrible disease organisms like Clostridium difficile and other gut-wrenching problem causers.

Only Bested By Blueberries

Because cranberries have a huge level of antioxidants per cup (only outranked by fresh blueberries) they are also a great addition to any healthy diet. Cranberries are high in vitamins A, C, E and the B vitamins. They are rich in calcium, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sulfur and zinc.

The absolute best way to ingest cranberries is naturally. Commercially prepared juices often contain additives and sugar, it is best to juice your own cranberries.

Pure fresh cranberries have 45 calories per cup, but the dried fruit has 140 cals per ⅓ of a cup. You can incorporate cranberries into your diet by eating them as it is, adding them to salads, into your yogurt or oatmeal, and of course, juicing them is one of the easiest ways to get the most of their natural benefits.

Since science now knows how cranberries can fight UTIs, we can now assume that eating, drinking, or somehow ingesting cranberries daily is a good idea to maintain good health, as well as prevent diseases and infections.

Some of the Benefits of Cranberries

Urinary tract infection (UTI):  By creating a “thermodynamic energy shield” in the bladder, cranberries help strip the bacteria off the bladder wall and ensure that they have no way to stay in the body.

Dental Health:  Anti-adhesion proanthocyanidins inhibit bacterial growth that causes plaque.

Chronic Disease Prevention:  Cancer, stroke, and heart disease risks can be reduced with an increased intake of cranberries. This is because of their super-high levels of phenols, which are powerful antioxidants.

If you find cranberries too bitter-sour, you can sweeten them with raw natural honey when using them. Alternatively, mix it with any juices of green apples, pears, pineapples, or make your own combination.
