Foot Bath Soak That STOPS Feet Pain And Prevent Leg Cramps

Last updated on

You may have moments when you have cramps in your feet, when your toes are stretched and don’t click back in place. Or when you’re sleeping, you may have cramps in your calves and ankles.

When you wake up in the morning, and put your feet on the floor, there may be times when you had felt a sharp pain in your heel, an ache in the arch of your foot, or a throb in your toes. You might not have had it today, but you might have it tomorrow, or the day after. Maybe you’ve had it before, just not lately.

There are various reasons for these cramps and pains. Some of these pains may happen during transition periods where you go from wearing winter boots to shoes, and then from shoes to flats, or high heels to barefoot. One other very possible reason, is that you may be deficient in magnesium.

It helps to understand that although some of these may be posture problems, there is a high possibility also, of excess calcium in your diet that is causing inflammation. Eating foods rich in magnesium helps you to reduce inflammation and also to address this mineral deficiency.

Here is the science of how these ingredients work for a fast relief!

How It Works

There are only three very important items used for this foot bath. These can also be used in a weekly bathtub soak that covers a bigger skin surface for higher absorption. But first, start with a foot bath to see how you like it.

epsom salt apple cider vinegar foot bath

This foot bath soak is very useful and easy for relieving foot pain at the end of the day.It also prevents leg cramps in the night as your feet absorbs magnesium (from the Epsom salt) and potassium (from the apple cider vinegar)—both important minerals for preventing muscle cramps. Adding apple cider vinegar is “killing more birds” by also helping to relief any itch, fungus or foot odor.

How To Do An Epsom Salt Apple Cider Vinegar Foot Bath

1. The Hot Water

Ancient cultures from Asia to Northern Europe have used water from hot springs to relieve or cure many ailments. Hot water helps to relax muscles, ease stress and strain, and promote circulation for better health. Hot water eases the compression of joints, creating more space between joints so that they don’t grind together.

As the spring water flows from under the earth, it is often also rich in minerals. People dipping in the water have found the water to be healing for many ailments.

An interesting note though, the water from hot springs are not boiling hot, they are very warm. You don’t want to soak yourself in boiling hot water! The water temperature should be a little warmer than your body’s internal temperature but not too much more. Just about ±102° is best (use a body thermometer to check). If it’s too hot, it raises your blood pressure and puts a strain on your heart.

I recommend doing toe curls and foot stretches while your feet are in the water.

2. Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is rich in both magnesium and sulfate. While both of these minerals are poorly absorbed through your diet, studies show an increase in magnesium level from soaking in a bath that is enriched with Epsom salt, without any adverse effects!

Magnesium alone is a miraculous mineral to have in adequate amounts in the body. The sulfates in Epsom salt help to pull out harmful toxins from the body through the skin. The presence of both these minerals in a bath or foot soak can provide astounding health benefits:

  • Improve heart and circulatory health, reduce irregular heartbeats, prevent hardening of the arteries, reduce blood clots and lower blood pressure.
  • Improve ability for the body to use insulin, reduce the incidence or severity of diabetes.
  • Flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, ease muscle pain and help the body to eliminate harmful substances.
  • Improve nerve function by electrolyte regulation. Calcium is the main conductor for electrical current in the body, and magnesium is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood.
  • Relieve stress. Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from the body. Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.
  • Reduce inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps.
  • And many more!

If you’re suffering from bad foot odor or you’ve been unfortunate enough to contract athlete’s foot, apple cider vinegar is a must in the bath. Additionally apple cider softens your feet and helps soften hard, cracked skin. Use a foot scrub to help remove dead skin for soft feet.

The Mix

  • Two cups of ACV
  • Half a cup of Epsom salt

Mix these two items in a large bucket filled with very warm water. Put both your feet in this water until the water turns cold. It should take about 20 minutes. You can do this as often as you like with no side effects.
