Natural Remedies For Vertigo

Some people consider vertigo a medical condition or disorder when it is actually a group of symptoms that are caused by various disorders. It is estimated that over 40 percent of people past the age of 40 will experience vertigo at some point during their life.

The most common symptoms related to vertigo include dizziness or a spinning sensation, along with nausea, headaches, ringing in the ears, perspiration, abnormal eye movements, and possibly the feeling that you are going to faint. These symptoms can last for several minutes or several days, depending on the causes.

While mild dizziness could be linked to fatigue, a lack of sleep, or malnutrition, vertigo is often caused by a larger group of problems. Conquering vertigo may require you to look at these various issues and get to the root of the problem.

Often, one of the biggest factors contributing to vertigo is your diet. Through a combination of healthy eating, stress reduction, and various forms of physical therapy, you may be able to conquer vertigo.

Here are five natural ways to begin curing vertigo:

1. Follow A Healthy Diet

The first place to look for possible causes of your vertigo, is the food that you eat. Preventing dehydration and inflammation by eating a healthy and balanced diet can limit the occurrences of vertigo.

High blood pressure and inflammation are both linked to a difficulty in staying hydrated. Try to include more hydrating foods in your diet. This includes leafy green vegetables, such as spinach, lettuce, kale and celery. Fresh fruit, such as bananas and avocados, are healthy sources of potassium, which help lower blood pressure.

You may also want to include healthy fats in your diet, including fatty fish and coconut oil, to maintain your health and reduce inflammation. Consuming anti-inflammatory herbs and spices, such as ginger, cinnamon, and turmeric can help to fight inflammation as well.

The simplest method of including healthy fruits and vegetables in your daily diet is to make your own juices or smoothies. This website has hundreds of juice recipes that you can try out. Your body can quickly absorb the nutrients from the produce and you will spend less time in the kitchen.

2. Supplements That May Be Helpful

When suffering from vertigo, taking the right targeted supplements may be beneficial. Here are some suggestions, but always check with your professional health practitioner.

  • Vitamin B complex:  B vitamins are necessary for normal brain and central nervous system function.
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin):  Improves cerebral circulation.
  • Vitamin C:  Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
  • Vitamin E:  Anti-inflammatory and improves circulation.
  • Choline and Lecithin:  Necessary in normal nerve function and improve brain function.
  • Coenzyme Q10:  Superior antioxidant that is beneficial for improving circulation to the brain.
  • Magnesium:  Necessary for maintaining nerve impulses and to help prevent dizziness.
  • Ginkgo Biloba:  Improves circulation to brain by increasing oxygen supply, and therefore, improves brain function.

3. Stay Hydrated

In addition to eating better, try to keep yourself adequately hydrated. Try to drink water throughout the day. An average person may need to consume eight glasses of water each day, not counting coffee or alcoholic beverages. However, this need varies according to your body size and lifestyle. Check here to know how much water you need to drink daily.

Sugary drinks can lead to dehydration. Also cut down on your consumption of alcohol and caffeine as they are diuretic and may cause further dehydration.

4. Use Vestibular Physical Therapy

Vestibular rehabilitation is a type of physical therapy that focuses on the vestibular organs. These organs are responsible for sending signals to the brain and establish balance.

If your vertigo is partially the result of an ear infection or other eye problem, then vestibular rehabilitation could help compensate for the inner-ear issues that you are facing. Along with this form of physical therapy, any activity that can increase hand and eye coordination could help prevent vertigo and dizziness.

5. Reduce Your Stress Levels

Stress and inflammation go hand in hand, which means that reducing your stress levels could help limit inflammation. This may alleviate some of your vertigo symptoms or reduce the severity of your vertigo. Stress can also make it difficult to get regular exercise, have a good night’s rest, and make healthy eating decisions.

To deal with your stress, try using deep breathing techniques or meditation to calm your mind. Taking a warm bath, performing some moderate exercise, and using essential oils can also assist with stress reduction.

6. Make Sure You Get Enough Rest

Fatigue and a lack of sleep can increase the risk of dizziness and vertigo. Make it your goal to get 8 hours of sleep each night. Some studies suggest that the average adult needs at least 7 hours of sleep while teenagers should receive at least 10 hours of rest. The elderly requires the least amount of sleep, with 5 to 6 hours being recommended.

Vertigo can go away on its own, without any treatment, but this is not always the case. If you experience vertigo more than once or twice, you should start looking into the possible causes. Follow the suggestions provided, starting with a healthy diet, to limit your chances of dizziness and vertigo.

If you do not get the results that you want, you may need to visit your Professional Health Practitioner. He or she can perform a full diagnosis and determine if there are any underlying causes that are leading to your vertigo.

With proper treatment, vertigo is easily treatable. It should not be an issue that you will have to deal with for the rest of your life. Make changes to your lifestyle to limit the occurrence of vertigo and dizziness once and for all.
